The aim of the architecture competition was to renovate an old coffin factory for cultural purposes and to create a landmark for the new residential area. The cultural centre offers functions such as event hall, restaurant and cafe, as well as flexible space for office, atelier and shops
Wolf D. Prix, jury chairman on the winning project: “Through the addition of reinterpreted sawtooth roofs, the building is transformed into a contemporary cultural centre that presents itself positively on Breitenfurter Straße. At the same time the new building with its highly sculptural quality provides a right answer to the new neighbourhood and forms the gateway to the new residential quarter.”
